A Time of Quiet in the Winter Solstice

In our hypnotherapy class the other evening, we were talking about how busy we have all felt in this festive season. It’s a bit of a paradox. As we approach the first day of winter, a season of going inward and of quiet, there’s a lot of outer activity in holiday preparation we are all doing. That will be slowing as the solstice energies are building this week toward quiet and stillness.

The energies are flowing pretty quickly from one thing to another. It’s a lot.

And yet, we are being asked to be really present in every action we take.

All the activity has been moving quite strongly around us, and yet like a strong current in a river, it has purpose and flow.

Just like after a heavy rainfall and the rivers and streams swell with water, eventually the waters will subside.

Soon enough, in approaching the Winter Solstice this Saturday December 21st, we wlll feel the quiet emerging.

And then we have a choice to allow ourselves to slow down, to rest, to enjoy a nice cup of tea or cocoa by the fire in the vibe of my new favorite word, hygge (a Danish word meaning something like “cozy comfort”).

Can we take time to pause and really notice the energies around us, and feel what is also within us?

This is about integrating the Divine Feminine (the yin) with the Divine Masculine (the yang). So many of us have been out of balance for a long time. Trying to force something, pushing a lot, and doing, and going.

When we allow ourselves to pause, we allow ourselves to receive. And this is much more important than it may seem. We need to fill our cups (with Divine light often!) so we can rejuvenate.

The ancient people on Earth were deeply in tune with nature, and would honor the cycles of season change, tapping into and the energies of Gaia (Mother Earth).

To similarly celebrate the Winter Solstice, I invite you to morning together virtually to reflect on the blessings we seek to invite into our lives for the winter.

After a short writing reflection, we will do a meditation.

On the longest day of the year, this Saturday December 21st from 9-9:45 am EST, bring a lit candle, a pen and paper, a sacred object and an element from the Earth (rock, leaf, etc.) for a Winter Solstice Meditation (free and virtual) to honor the return of the light and the cycles of seasonal change.

I look forward to seeing you there! And even if you can’t make it, I hope the day brings you the peace and calm that you seek.
